What is Your Risk for Disease? Our Disease Risk Program helps determine your Disease Risks?

We often hear, “I will probably get it because my mom had it.”  There is often confusion about what an individuals risk for developing a disease actually is.

Why is knowing Your Disease Risk important?

Because it allows you to make informed decisions about your health.  Knowing your risks also allows you to consider methods for disease prevention, participate in better screening methods and changes the risk/benefit ratio for using medications, supplements or making lifestyle choices to optimize your health.

How does the Disease Risk Program Work?

We obtain a medical history specific for the disease of interest.  This medical history will include:

  • Ethnic History
  • Pregnancy History
  • Developmental History
  • Childhood History
  • Family History
  • Medication Use
  • Lifestyle
  • Diet and Nutrition
  • Risk Behaviors like smoking

We use this information often to then determine what your background risk is compared to the average population.

Genetic Testing in the Disease Risk Program

Often, patients identified to be high risk, may need additional Genetic Testing to better stratify their risk.  We have partnerships with testing laboratories world-wide to offer you the most comprehensive genetic testing available.
